ABOUT:

Krewe of Freret

In 2011, the Krewe of Freret began with seven Loyola graduates who wanted to preserve the Mardi Gras tradition, unify enthusiastic young professionals, support local industry, and infuse vigor into Carnival while revitalizing the Freret corridor.

Today, the Krewe is known for creating a unique and inclusive parade favoring local vendors, artists and entertainers.  Members hand-decorate Mardi Gras Masks as coveted signature throws and since inception, KoF has supported the local music scene with annual events taking place seasonally in New Orleans Such as Krewe of Freret’s Eat Street and KoF Summer Strut. For the 2020 year, the Krewe Of Freret announced an expanded and long-term partnership with legendary Float Builder and Parade Producer Kern Studios, to build the Krewe of Freret into the next Super Krewe. The partnership announced the addition of a new list of marquee ‘signature’ Krewe floats, including the largest float prop ever affixed to a Mardi Gras Float, an giant bust of Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, the Krewe’s 2020 Grand Marshall.

On February 15, 2020, the Krewe of Freret and Trombone Shorty presented a “Music of New Orleans” themed parade through the streets of New Orleans on magical floats with special guests Preservation Hall, Arcade Fire (more artists to be announced soon) as well as the best marching bands and performers in Mardi Gras, ending its procession at Mardi Gras World, where it will hold its first annual ‘Shorty Gras’ Ball. The Krewe of Freret’s ‘Shorty Gras ’ Ball is the beautiful union of Mardi Gras and Music featuring a world-class musical lineup headlined and curated by Trombone Shorty. Not to mention, the best food and drink that makes New Orleans so famous…and much, much more. Krewe Membership and Event Admission are limited—be sure to get both now!
